If you've ever gotten Laura as your result and immediately texted a screenshot to a friend named Laura, or texted it to yourself out of solidarity with all Lauras everywhere, you've probably wondered: why? Why is the quietest, gentlest, most "still charging" result on the entire scale named after a person? We investigated. We regret to inform you that we did not find a definitive answer, only theories.
Theory 1: it's funnier this way
The leading theory, and frankly the only one with any internal evidence, is that "Dormant" — the original, extremely forgettable name for this tier — just wasn't landing. A number that says "+1,204 DORMANT" reads like a diagnosis. A number that says "+1,204 LAURA" reads like a plot twist. Comedy rewards specificity, and nothing is more specific than an unexplained proper noun where an adjective is supposed to be.
Theory 2: every friend group already has one
Statistically, in most friend groups, there exists exactly one person whose energy that day can be summed up as "present, technically." Not bad energy. Not even low energy, necessarily. Just... conserving. The theory holds that "Laura" became shorthand for this specific, universally recognizable vibe long before this website existed, and we simply had the good sense to steal it.
